PSE&G has announced that the company will reimburse some customers for spoiled food and medication because of power outages caused by Tropical Storm Isaias.
Customers who lost power for at least 72 hours are eligible for the reimbursement.
“We recognize that losing power in August, together with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, was a hardship for many of our customers,” PSE&G President Dave Daly said in a statement. “Given the unique combination of circumstances, we believe the right thing to do is to expand our claims process to ease the burden on the customers most impacted by Tropical Storm Isaias.”
The company will reimburse residential customers up to $250, and commercial customers up to $5,000 for the spoiled food if power service was out for 72 hours or longer between Aug. 4 and Aug. 12.

Residential customers who lost food worth $150 or less must include an itemized list of items lost. Claims over $150 must include an itemized list and proof of loss, such as credit card receipts or photos of the spoiled items.
Customers may also be reimbursed up to $300 for spoiled prescription medication. Proof of loss will also be required.
Customers may apply for reimbursement at the PSE&G website. The company says that the claims cannot be processed over the phone.
Customers have until Sept. 16 to file their claims.
