A Newark police officer shot two people Monday afternoon, fatally wounding one and injuring another, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Officials say the officer encountered a group of civilians in the area of Ross Street and Evergreen Avenue around 1 p.m. Details about what exactly occurred were not provided, but the attorney general says that during this encounter, a Newark police officer fired his weapon and struck two people.
Officials say both civilians were taken to University Hospital, where one of them died.
