The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says a second and third person in New York City are being tested for novel coronavirus.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a tweet, “New York State still has zero confirmed cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus, but we are continuing to take every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of New Yorkers."

It says both individuals, who are currently hospitalized, had recently been in mainland China. The department says both people are over 60 and had a fever, cough or shortness of breath.

One person is hospitalized at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, while the other is hospitalized at New York-Presbyterian Queens. Both are said to be in stable condition.

The department says testing to determine whether these are confirmed cases of novel coronavirus will take a minimum of 36 to 48 hours and depends on CDC testing capacity.

In California, officials confirmed three more people tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the U.S. to 11.

"Because we have a significant amount of travel that our residents do between here and many parts of the world, including China, I anticipate that we will have additional cases confirmed here in the county in the days and weeks to come," says Dr. Sara Coty, a health officer with Santa Clara County.

California has six confirmed cases, with other cases in Arizona, Illinois, Washington and Massachusetts.

So far, no cases have been reported in New Jersey. The U.S. is one of at least 26 countries outside China with coronavirus cases.

"Any U.S. citizen returning to the United States who has been in Hubei Province in the previous 14 days will be subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine," says Alex Azar, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The U.S military is preparing for possible quarantine housing in California, Colorado, and Texas.

According to the Pentagon, the Defense Department will provide the facilities, but it will be up to health officials to deal with care and security.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the CDC is stepping in to help Kazakhstan fight the coronavirus. During a joint press conference with the country, Pompeo says staff from the CDC are in Kazakhstan to work with local authorities.

More than 17,000 people have been effected by coronavirus worldwide, and more than 360 people have died as a result of the virus. The first death outside of China was reported Sunday -- a Chinese man who died in the Philippines.

Nearly 60 million people remain under lockdown in Chinese cities as researchers race to develop a vaccine. Medical teams in Wuhan are opening two new hospitals dedicated to treating people with the disease.

The first facility, which was built in just one week, starts accepting patients today.
