State AG: Don’t be afraid to talk to police about missing Bridgeton girl
The New Jersey attorney general is assuring the public that they do not need to be afraid of the police if they have information about a 5-year-old girl who went missing nearly two weeks ago.
Dulce Maria Alavez went missing on Sept. 16 from the Bridgeton City Park.
Bridgeton has a large Hispanic population and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal assured the public Friday that law enforcement officers investigating Alavez’s disappearance have no interest in a potential witness’ immigration status.
“Under my authority, under this directive, they can feel comfortable and safe reaching out to the Bridgeton police without fear of immigration consequences; without any fear whatsoever. Provide whatever information you have so we can find this little girl,” Grewal said.
Authorities say that they believe that Alavez was taken from the park, possibly by a light-skinned Hispanic man who was seen with a red van or SUV.
The New Jersey State Police and FBI are also involved in the search.
