Commercial vehicle travel ban lifted in New Jersey
A ban on commercial vehicle travel has been lifted for New Jersey as of 10 p.m., according to state officials.
New Jersey state police issued the ban on commercial vehicles on all interstates that cross New Jersey that went into effect at midnight Tuesday.
The ban was put into place to allow New Jersey Department of Transportation crews ample room to salt and plow state roadways during Tuesday’s winter storm.
Roadways included in the ban were Interstates 80, 28, 287 and 295. The ban did not include the Garden State Parkway or New Jersey Turnpike.
The state DOT had about 2,500 snowplows and salt trucks around the state clearing the roads.
But state police say that they responded to hundreds of traffic incidents due to the slickness of the roadways from sleet and frozen rain.
