In the midst of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, the state is trying to help those affected.
President Donald Trump ordered a partial government shutdown on Dec. 22, 2018 after his administration and Democrats in Congress were unable to come to an agreement over funding for border security and a wall on the United States and Mexico border.
Federal workers are not being paid while the shutdown is ongoing. Essential employees are still having to work, even without receiving a paycheck.
To offset some of the pressure of not receiving a paycheck, some New Jersey businesses are offering free services to federal employees and their immediate family.
Federal employees who are patrons of these businesses should check with store management about the offers. Patrons may be required to show their federal identifications.
