Widow describes moments leading to husband’s murder
The widow of a man shot and killed during a 2013 carjacking at the Mall at Short Hills described the moments leading up to and after her husband’s murder.
Jamie Friedland testified Wednesday for the prosecution in the murder trial of Basim Henry, one of four men accused of killing Dustin Friedland during an alleged carjacking.
The couple was celebrating their first wedding anniversary on Dec. 15, 2013 with dinner and shopping at the mall, when they were approached by two men who allegedly targeted them for their Range Rover.
Jamie Friedland testified that two men approached her husband before he was able to get into the car. She says that she heard arguing and saw a struggle before hearing a gunshot.
She testified that one of the men pointed the gun at her and ordered her out before they drove away with the couple’s vehicle.
“I just knew, I knew when I turned around, I knew what I was going to see,” Jamie said. “I saw Dustin laying there in a pool of blood and I ran over to him.”
Henry is the first of the four men to be tried. Hanif Thompson, Karif Ford and Kevin Roberts are also accused in the crime.
Henry faces murder, carjacking and gun offenses. He could face life in prison if he is convicted.
