(04/11/06) NEWARK ? Business owners held a demonstration Tuesday to demand increased police activity in their neighborhoods.
The protest occurred less than three weeks after a liquor store worker was killed during a holdup. Ramon Lopez was fatally shot at Fox?s Liquor Store on March 23. Other merchants in the neighborhood say they have become prime targets for violent robbers once the sun goes down. In order to feel safer, business owners are calling for more police patrols in the area.
Storeowners also say they are frustrated over the lack of progress in Lopez?s murder investigation. Later in the day, police released a photo from the store?s surveillance camera. They are asking anyone with information to call (973) 733-5400.
