This week on Spotlight New Jersey: Heart attacks are the No. 1 killer in the U.S. Go Red for Women Ambassador Avonia Richardson-Miller of Union County is promoting awareness after she underwent heart surgery. She says her symptoms started with a flutter.
"Listen to your body is the No. 1 thing -- even like in my case, where I was considered to be perfectly healthy," she says. "No medications, no diagnoses of any kind of health issues, and what got my attention and what I listened to was a little flutter that lasted 10 or 20 seconds. And when I received my diagnosis they said to me, 'You have six months, maybe a year at the most,'" she says.
Spotlight New Jersey airs Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., only on News 12 New Jersey.
