South Brunswick police are looking for answers as they continue to investigate the fatal crash on Route 1 that killed a 24-year-old Trenton woman.
The victim's mother believes witnesses may have those answers - and she’s trying to reach them.
“Somebody has that license plate,” said Lulu Peña. “That’s all we need.”
Friday will mark one week since Peña lost her daughter Tatiana - who hoped to become a lawyer and enjoyed spending time with her younger sister.
“Now, to even mention to her that Tatiana is no longer with us is devastating enough,” Peña said.
South Brunswick police say Tatiana Peña struck a tractor-trailer from behind near New Road around 2:30 a.m. last Friday. A third vehicle then crashed into her. But police can’t complete the investigation until they find the truck driver that left the scene.
“I was told that people ran out there to stop traffic,” Peña said. “Somebody pulled her out of the car to do CPR on her. I’m hoping that somebody grabbed their phone, as everyone does, videotaped it, maybe put it on social media or their own little blog. Not having closure to this whole situation is killing me.”
Peña says her circle is helping her grieve, but until she learns the full story, there’s a piece missing.
“I never knew that this would bring people together,” Peña said. “It’s a beautiful feeling, but it’s not one that I want - not this way. Not this way.”
