Four apartments were destroyed after a fire broke out Sunday at a Neptune City apartment complex, authorities said.

Police were dispatched at 12:14 p.m. to Brighton Arms II at 311 W. Sylvania Ave. for a reported structure fire. Officers arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from the building and, with assistance from Wall Township police, evacuated Building 4, according to the Neptune City Police Department.

No residents or emergency responders were injured, police said.

Officials said four apartments sustained fire, smoke and water damage and are currently uninhabitable. Management at Brighton Arms is arranging temporary housing for the displaced residents.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters from Neptune City, Neptune Township, Avon, Asbury Park, Wall Township, Wanamassa and Tinton Falls. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s EMS and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office also responded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
