Train engine fire at NJ Transit yard in Hoboken extinguished without injuries
Fire damaged a locomotive's fuel tank before crews contained the blaze, officials say.

A fire involving a train engine at an NJ Transit service yard in Hoboken was extinguished Friday morning without any reported injuries, officials said.
The Hoboken Fire Department responded around 5:50 a.m. to reports of a fire at the service yard on Observer Highway. Fire officials said the blaze involved the train engine’s fuel tank.
Firefighters worked with NJ Transit personnel and the NJ Transit Police Department to cool the fuel tank and safely contain the fire. Officials said the blaze was confined to the train engine and was extinguished using non-fluorinated firefighting foam.
Despite high temperatures and humidity, no injuries were reported. Damage was limited to the train engine, officials said.
The train was not in service at the time of the fire and had no customers aboard, NJ Transit officials said.
Henderson Street was temporarily closed to accommodate emergency vehicles but has since reopened.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by NJ Transit.
