(08/17/07) PARAMUS ? To the possible disappointment of some students, classes at West Brook Middle School will start September 5.
Paramus Mayor James Tedesco made the announcement Friday, months after soil on school property was found to be contaminated with soil. Both the state Department of Health and the state Environmental Protection Agency have given a passing grade to conditions both inside and outside the school.
One sample of air inside the school was slightly elevated, but considered within safe levels. School Board President Mario Sicari said they will continue cleanup operations until the area is 100 percent clear.
?We will continue to purge the air at West Brook Middle School and continue to take additional air samples as long as needed?? said Sicari.
While Friday?s announcement was a glimmer of good news for Paramus, the borough is facing a lawsuit stemming from the West Brook Middle School situation. However, Tedesco said it?s without merit.
