A water main break in Monmouth County not only caused water-related issues for homeowners, but also destroyed a vehicle.
The break happened on Thursday around 1:30 a.m. near West Front Street and Whitman Drive in Middletown.
The leak caused significant damage to the roadway. Sometime before sunrise, a woman from Pennsylvania says she was on her way to work in Red Bank and was following a detour when she suddenly drove right into a sinkhole.
“I went to the other side of the street where the water wasn’t, and apparently my passenger side tire must’ve hit the sinkhole, because that’s when the whole car went in and I got out of there as fast as I could,” says Keri Bailey, of Williamsport.
Bailey was not hurt, but her car was totaled.
New Jersey American Water says about 90 customers were impacted by the break.
