Short-term rentals have resumed in Wildwood and North Wildwood with some restrictions.
Hotels and motels in the two towns can operate at 60% capacity. But many do not have any guests at the moment.
“A lot of cancellations,” says Matador Oceanfront Restart owner Carl Del Monte.
Del Monte says that his hotel does not have a reservation until the beginning of June.
“It’s a struggle every day. I sit at my desk and my problem is I don’t know what to pay. I’m juggling bills around,” he says.
Del Monte says that the hotel is taking extra precautions to ensure that guests and staff are safe from the virus – including plexiglass dividers in the office and disinfecting high-traffic areas.
“We bought thermometers so we will be taking the employees’ temperatures. We will not be doing maid service this year. We don’t want our housekeepers in the room with customers. We bought a fogging machine,” he says.

Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron says that guests should feel safe bringing their families to the motels.
Two motels in Wildwood were cited this weekend for allowing guests in ahead of Tuesday’s reopening. Police kicked the guests out.
“Memorial Day Weekend in some instances is 15-20% of their total summer business, so I understand why some people may act like they do or they did, but you just need to understand that there are rules and everyone needs to follow those rules,” Byron says.
Short-term rentals can go to full capacity on June 22. Byron says that the town has also passed a resolution allowing outdoor dining in some capacity as soon as they get the OK from Gov. Phil Murphy.
Neighboring Wildwood Crest will be allowing short-term rentals on June 1.
