Morning trip to local McDonald's ends in hospital visit for two women after vehicle slams into restaurant
A morning trip to a local McDonald's ended in a hospital visit for two women after a vehicle slammed into the restaurant Friday morning.
The Belleville Police Department responded to the crash at 173 Franklin Street around 9:45 a.m. Authorities say a vehicle struck the building, causing significant damage to the storefront's glass exterior.
Two women who were inside the restaurant at the time of the collision sustained minor injuries. Emergency crews transported both victims to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Their current conditions have not been released, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the impact. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police confirmed the driver was issued a summons for operating an unregistered vehicle.
The vehicle involved was towed from the scene due to the registration violation and the damage sustained in the wreck. The Belleville Police Traffic Bureau has taken over the investigation to determine exactly what led the driver to leave the roadway and strike the building.
The restaurant sustained visible damage to its facade, and building inspectors are typically called in these instances to ensure the structural integrity of the property before it can reopen to the public.
