A New Jersey man has died during a ski chairlift accident in Colorado, investigators say.

Investigators confirm that Jason Varnish, of Short Hills, fell through an opening in a chairlift seat with his coat wrapped around his head and neck.

The chairlift's seat was upright instead of in the down position and Varnish suffocated.

A coroner has ruled his death an accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
