Essex County authorities have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection to possible dog fighting.
Two Essex County Sheriff's officers on routine patrol in Branch Brook Park became suspicious spotting two men exiting a wooded area with two pit bulls. They then found a young dog slashed with a box cutter they believe was intended as a bait dog.
Thorne Wright, 21, of Lakehurst, faces animal cruelty charges. The SPCA is on the case and more charges could be pending. The other person apprehended was a juvenile and handed over to his mother.
All three dogs are in the care of the Associated Humane Societies in Newark.
