The second suspect who police say was involved in the attack of a rookie NYPD officer faced a Bronx judge today, after weeks of hiding.
Police say 23-year-olds Taveon Hargrove and Wayne Lucas brutally beat Officer Chowdhury Nafees back in May. Lucas was quickly found in Virginia, failing to hide from police wearing a wig. Hargrove, however, had been fighting extradition until Wednesday.
With surveillance evidence, the prosecution alleged Lucas held a knife to Nafees neck while Hargrove swiped the officer's wallet, phones and his loaded service gun. They added Hargrove was the one seen stomping on Nafee's head.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty in arraignment and will be back in court Sept. 12, 2025.
Both suspects are being held without bail and are considered "flight risks."
