Business owners in Seaside Heights say recovery has been slow since Superstorm Sandy and a large fire that destroyed the boardwalk.

Kathy Kirckof, a bartender at The Sawmill, says business has been light at the restaurant due to the lack of rides, shops and games along the Seaside Heights and Seaside Park boardwalk.

"I don't think the families are coming back as much as before, but we're still open for business," she says.

Employees at the boardwalk tell News 12 New Jersey that they are holding out on building permanent structures for games until more funds come in. A disagreement between Seaside Heights and Seaside Park is also leading to delays.

Michael Graichen, a spokesperson for Seaside Heights, says the borough is urging the Seaside Park council to loosen height restrictions for rides. The idea is taller, adult rides could bring in larger crowds.

"We are asking for a little more cooperation with the businesses down in [Seaside Park]" says Graichen.

Seaside Park has not made any decisions on whether or not to allow taller rides.

Children's rides will be featured in the dirt parking lot along Seaside Park's boardwalk.
