Residents of a Bergen County town are on alert after a woman had her purse stolen Friday night.

Police say Nikita Sunday was walking down the street when a man grabbed the purse and took off running too quickly for her to pursue.

"You're [going to] take a pocketbook, you don't know if there's money at all in there. You're taking a chance,? Elmwood Park Police Chief Don Ingrasselino said. ?It's a robbery. You're going to do five years in jail for something like that, maybe to get $10."

Police say the victim did not get a good look at the thief, but believes the man was wearing a bandana. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
