A college scholarship fund for kids who lost parents in the Sept. 11 attacks is turning dreams into a reality for thousands, including some New Jersey residents.
Gail Fabiyan, whose husband was killed in the terrorist attacks, says she thought college was out of the question for her seven children until she heard about the Families of Freedom scholarship fund.
Fabiyan?s husband, John Fisher, was working for Port Authority on Sept. 11. Three of their college-aged children have been helped by the scholarship. The children say their father would be happy to know they got the chance to go to college.
The Families of Freedom scholarship fund pays a large portion of the college tuition bills. The recipients must keep up their grades in order to keep receiving the checks.To date, the scholarship fund has raised over $108 million.
