Monday marked the start of football training camp for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway.
The team began the day with its full roster on the field, including all of the freshmen, as well as transfers and those recovering from injuries.
The finishing touches were being put on the team’s new practice field, a vision head coach Chris Ash says that he had when he was first hired 18 months ago.
But Ash says that he has a lot to do to get the team ready after last year’s winless stint in the Big Ten.
The team hopes Louisville transfer Kyle Bolin and freshman Johnathan Lewis from St. Peter’s Prep will help the team.
Kick returner and receiver Janarion Grant returned to practice after breaking his right ankle about 11 months ago. He worked on the side while the team practiced Monday.
Ash says that it’s still too early for him to make roster decisions.
The season-opening game is scheduled for Sept. 1 against Washington.
