A water main break at the intersection of Route 9W and Main Street in Stony Point happened Thursday afternoon in the middle of a major construction project.
Three homes and the Rose Memorial Library were flooded and a portion of 9W had to be shut down for a time, but it is now back open for the morning commute.
Earlier this week local lawmakers said the construction that's been going on for months is causing an economic crisis in Rockland County. Some business owners in the area report revenue losses of up to 70% this summer because it's too hard for customers to get to them.
It's all part of the Champlain Hudson Power Express, a hydropower pipeline that will deliver electricity from Canada to New York City. Local lawmakers are now asking the builders to put $5 million into an emergency fund to save suffering businesses along Route 9W. State officials say they are monitoring the situation and expect the company to work with local governments to mitigate any issues.
While 9W is back open but the library is closed today, and we're told its children's room flooded and that will be closed until further notice.
