Bayonne’s remarkable Little League World Series run came to an end Wednesday, but the team returns home with plenty to celebrate.
Bayonne was eliminated from the tournament with a 5-2 loss to Ohio.
The game unraveled in the fourth inning when Ohio turned a 2-0 lead into a four-run advantage after a difficult hop in the infield and an outfield misplay allowed two runs to score.
Bayonne battled back and brought the tying run to the plate in the final inning.
However, the comeback attempt fell short as Ohio secured the victory.
The loss ended a historic season for the Hudson County team.
Bayonne will return home with two wins at the Little League World Series, a state championship and a final ranking as one of the six best Little League teams in the United States.

Team officials say the players and coaches are expected to arrive back in Bayonne around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The team has been away since Aug. 7, when it left for the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut.
Bayonne police will meet the team's bus on the New Jersey Turnpike and escort it through the city to the Little League complex on First Street.
