The Broadway Bridge in Marble Hill is undergoing a major rehabilitation project, with crews working on structural, mechanical and electrical repairs. Improvements include new bike lanes and replacement of roadway decks.
Many residents say the construction, which has been ongoing for years, has created disruptions for pedestrians. Eddie Valentine, a Marble Hill resident, describes the difficulty pedestrians face, saying crews alternate closing sidewalks, leaving walkers unsure where to go.
City data shows the Broadway Bridge corridor, spanning 10 blocks, has seen 80 crashes and over 100 injuries in the past five years, and locals argue that the construction has only worsened the area’s traffic and safety.
The Department of Transportation expects the bridge rehabilitation project to be completed by 2027.
