63-year-old pedestrian fatally struck on Route 1

The driver, a 19-year-old Rutgers student heading to Jersey City to visit his parents, will not face charges, police say.

A 63-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing against the light at Route 1 North and Plainfield Avenue around 4:15 a.m. today.

The driver, a 19-year-old Rutgers student heading to Jersey City to visit his parents, will not face charges, police say.

The victim's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Route 1, initially closed for investigation, reopened and traffic is flowing smoothly.
