A U.S. Air Force officer from Burlington County was indicted Thursday on federal child exploitation charges, the U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey said.

Gabriel Perez, 31, of Eastampton, faces a two-count indictment, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced Friday.

Court documents allege that in mid-August 2024, Perez, then 29, communicated on Reddit with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Over two weeks, he expressed interest in meeting her for sex, prosecutors said. On Aug. 28, 2024, he sent an obscene photo of himself and arranged a meeting, according to officials. He was arrested the next day at the location with condoms in his pocket.

Perez is charged with attempting to entice a minor for sex and attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor. The first count carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life. The second count carries up to 10 years.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative against child sexual exploitation.
