ICE has arrested 115 undocumented immigrants, who were living in the U.S. illegally from 23 different countries, during a five-day sweep in New Jersey.
The sweep began Jan. 27 and ended Feb. 1., and consisted of 84 percent of the 115 arrests that had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges.
ICE officials say 84% of the people arrested either had previous convictions or pending criminal charges. Some will face federal criminal prosecutions for illegal entry and illegal re-entry after removal. One who illegally re-enters the United States after removal can face up to 20 years in federal prison if criminally prosecuted.
Convictions and pending charges include homicide, sexual assault on a minor, child abuse, possession of narcotics, among other charges.
One of the men, a 53-year-old Brazilian national, is wanted for murder in that country.
