Oil drilling may not happen off the New Jersey coast after all.
Rep. Chris Smith met with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke this week and discussed the matter.
Smith posted on Twitter that he told the secretary that many New Jersey lawmakers were not interested in having offshore drilling at the Jersey Shore. Smith said that the meeting was “encouraging.”
The Trump administration previously announced that it would allow new offshore oil and gas drilling in United States coastal waters. The announcement sparked backlash in a number of states, including New Jersey.
