A former Nassau County Fire Service Academy employee accused of defrauding workers compensation was indicted on Wednesday, according to authorities.
Prosecutors say Chrysta Cataldo, 40, collected over $16,000 in workers' compensation despite still working.
They say Cataldo claimed she sustained a back injury while on the job in 2022 and could not work.
However, the Nassau district attorney says she continued working two jobs and volunteering with the Massapequa Fire Department.
Authorities say she faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
