Two men riding a stolen motorcycle are facing multiple charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash in West New York that left a pedestrian in critical condition, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Samuel Collazo, 20, of Westfield and Rylan Cook-Figueroa, 20, of West New York are facing multiple charges including knowingly leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor says the crash occurred on Aug. 17 at approximately 3:40 p.m. in the area of Bergenline Avenue and 57th Street in West New York. Local police responded to the area after being notified of a pedestrian struck by a motorcycle. When they arrived, officers found a 54-year-old Union City man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and remains in critical condition, the prosecutor said in a statement.
According to the prosecutor, the occupants of the motorcycle fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival. During the preliminary investigation, police learned that the vehicle had previously been reported stolen. Collazo was identified as the operator of the motorcycle and Cook-Figueroa was identified as the rear passenger, the prosecutor said. Both men were arrested on Aug. 21 and are being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending their first court appearances.
