The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of a man who allegedly set a fire Friday in Hamilton Township that killed three people.
Prosecutors say Michael Sanders, 23, of Trenton, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, among other charges.
He was taken into custody early this morning at a hotel in Plainsboro. The prosecutor's office has filed a motion to detain Sanders pending trial.
The fire began Friday around 3:40 a.m. at 213 Woodlawn Ave. Authorities say a 9-month-old baby girl, identified as Malani Sanders, and a 42-year-old female, identified as Tiffany Abrams-Jones, were found deceased at the scene.
Three additional people were transported to the hospital with critical burn injuries. One of them, 50-year-old Prince Jones, died from his injuries Sunday. Jones and Abrams-Jones were the grandparents of the baby.
One witness told detectives that a resident of 213 Woodlawn Ave. who is the mother of the deceased baby received a text message the night leading up to the fire from the baby's father, Michael Sanders, telling her to get the baby out of the house.
Anyone with information is asked to call HTF Detective Jennifer Eyster at 609-989-6406.
