Residents in Howell Township showed up at City Hall Thursday to discuss what the latest property revaluation will do to their taxes. Homes in Howell have not been revaluated since early 1990 and officials say the whole town is about to get a wake-up call. Jim and Dana Fields took the day off so they could meet with reps from Realty Appraisals. After a brief talk they came away disappointed. They learned the $5,600 tax bill on their Lorelei Drive home will likely rise to more than $7,000. The Fields family moved to Howell from Staten Island two years ago in order to save money. With the prospect of a $1,500 tax hike due to re-assessment, they say they fear they may have to move again. Officials say homeowners who do not like what they are hearing from the appraisal board can appeal the revaluation.
