A Northern State prison guard is the latest officer to find himself on the opposite side of the law in New Jersey.
Corrections officer Marzettie Shamberger faces drug and official misconduct charges. Shamberger allegedly failed to properly search an inmate who then set off a metal detector. Authorities say the inmate was found to have a cell phone, 10 bags of marijuana and 46 decks of heroin.
"Drugs shouldn't ever be present in any kind of prison and to have this happen is really, really something that shouldn't be allowed ever," says Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow.
Shamberger?s bail has been set at $50,000 and he could face more charges.
Investigators say they are examining surveillance and visitor records to see who passed the inmate the contraband and how.
