It's been called the biggest telemarketing scam of all time.

From the 1990s through the 2000s, a New Jersey-based company called Civic Development Group raised hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of law enforcement-related charities and other nonprofit organizations.

CDG hired ex-cons, drug addicts and folks who would not be likely to find a job anywhere else, keeping the vast majority of the money and making its owners enormously wealthy until authorities finally shut it down.

A new HBO documentary shot and produced by one of the former telemarketers who made the calls provides a stunning inside look at the operation.

On today's "Brian's Positively New Jersey,” Brian Donohue speaks with Highland Park native Sam Lipman-Stern, director of "Telemarketers,” about his documentary that blows the lid off one of the craziest New Jersey tales of all time.
