Customs officials at the Port of Newark have uncovered 23 shipments containing illegal animal products from China.

There's an outbreak of African swine fever, or ASF, in China, a highly contagious swine viral disease that affects pigs.

The outbreak of the diseases has prompted stricter U.S. import requirements. 

The disease can affect food containing infected pork.

ASF does not affect people, and therefore is not a public health threat.
