The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the agency issued nearly 4,700 summonses last year, recovering more than $21 million.
More than 2,300 summonses were issued for obstructed or missing license plates and 1,500 were issued for toll evasion. The agency also says that 775 vehicles were taken off the road for suspended registrations.
The director of the Port Authority wrote in a statement, “We encourage all customers to sign up for E-ZPass for substantial discounts. Failure to pay your tolls and incurring penalties is far more expensive than paying tolls when they are due."
