Pompton Lakes residents spent Thursday clearing away the snow from the state’s first major snowstorm in over two years.
Snowblowers and shovels were seen all throughout the suburban town as people cleared their driveways and walkways and dug out their cars.
“I don’t mind because I am from Germany, and in Germany, we have a lot of snow,” said Peter Panek.
About 10 inches of snow fell in the Passaic County town, bringing neighbors with their shovels together.
“All the neighbors help each other out on this block all the time with the shoveling,” says John Tirch. “We were socially distant with our masks on, but we all help each other out."
Other areas of northwestern New Jersey also saw several inches of snow. But roadways such as Interstate 287 and county roads were pretty clear of snow by the morning.
Pompton Lakes students did not have a snow day and continued with online lessons. But that didn’t stop them from going outside to play in the snow for a time.
The last time New Jersey saw a significant snowfall was in January 2018.
