Police: 6-year-old girl injured in Sunrise Highway crash has died

Police say Calix Armando Rivera Aguilar was driving westbound on the highway in Bohemia Saturday afternoon when he lost control, hit the center median, left the roadway and struck a tree.

The 6-year-old girl who was critically injured in a crash on Sunrise Highway has died, according to Suffolk police.
Police say Calix Armando Rivera Aguilar was driving westbound on the highway in Bohemia Saturday afternoon when he lost control, hit the center median, left the roadway and struck a tree.
His daughter, Amaia Rivera, was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle and ejected during the crash. She was brought to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in critical condition.
Aguilar, 51, of Brentwood, was not injured. Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to call police at 631-854-8542.
