Police say a man was shot by officers in Trenton after he stabbed two people early Saturday morning.
They say it happened just before 2 a.m. on South Clinton Avenue in the area of Beatty Street, and that officers were responding to a street fight.
Police say officers arrived to find two men holding the suspect down, and when they tried to arrest him, he allegedly pulled out a large knife and stabbed the two people who were restraining him.
They say the officer ordered the suspect to stop, and when he didn't he opened fire. The suspect was hit at least once.
Police say one stabbing victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition, while the other victim and the suspect are in stable condition.
Trenton Police Capt. Stephen Varn declined to release names or more details about where the victims were stabbed, or where and how many times the suspect was shot. He said he did not know if one of the victims was still in surgery.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation.
