Police are searching for a motorist who they say drove off from a traffic stop and dragged an officer about 50 feet.
A spokesman for the Brick Police Department says that officers stopped a beige BMW driven by 34-year-old John Carter around 10 p.m. Monday. Police say Carter turned over his driver's license but refused to exit the vehicle after officers learned that he had two outstanding warrants.
Police say Carter locked the driver's door and accelerated when Sgt. Erik Olsen reached in the window to unlock it. Olsen's arm became stuck in the window frame.
Sgt. Olsen was not seriously hurt and refused medical treatment.
Carter will face aggravated assault and other charges when he's apprehended.
Anyone who may know Carter's whereabouts is asked to call Brick police at 732-262-1100.
