A 6-year-old boy with autism who was reported missing in Newark on Monday was found safe in a parked car.

Alimou Diallo was found in a Toyota Highlander parked in a homeowner’s driveway. The car was parked approximately three blocks away from his family home along Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.

Diallo, who has autism, had been reported missing by his parents at around 5 a.m. when they realized he had left their apartment complex. That complex sits across the street from Weequhaic Park.

After a massive search by Newark police all around Weequahic Park, the boy was eventually found in that parked car and reunited with his mother and father.

Police had officers on foot along with a drone in the air in an attempt to find the little boy. He was missing for eight hours.

The boy was taken to University Hospital to get checked out and is expected to be OK.
