Commuters taking the express lanes of I-78 in Newark faced delays Friday following an early-morning crash.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation first reported the crash around 6 a.m. on its 511NJ traffic website.
Initially, the crash prompted first responders to close all westbound express lanes of I-78 just west of Exit 56 in Newark. Just before 7 a.m., NJDOT reported that one lane had reopened near Elizabeth Avenue in Newark. Traffic continued to move slowly through the area.
The crash appears to have occurred below the Bergen Street overpass and involved a box truck.
Multiple police and emergency crews responded to the scene. There is no word yet on what caused the crash or whether anyone was injured.
