Family and friends are gathering to say goodbye to 2-year-old James Gabriel, who was tragically killed in a parking lot crash at a farm in Upper Freehold Township last weekend.
A GoFundMe campaign was created in his memory has seen an outpouring of support from community members offering condolences and financial assistance to his grieving family.
Visitation services for James take place Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home in Freehold Township. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Gabriel in Marlboro, followed by interment at St. Gabriel's Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum.
The fatal incident occurred Saturday morning when James and his 66-year-old grandmother were walking through the parking lot at Screamin' Hill Brewery on Bullock Farm. According to New Jersey State Police, a Chrysler SUV backing out of a parking space struck both pedestrians.
James suffered fatal injuries at the scene, while his grandmother was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
In his obituary, James' family remembered him as a bright light whose memory will remain with them forever.
The investigation into the crash remains active by the New Jersey State Police.
