Police say a 17-year-old senior at Ocean Township High School posted a threatening tweet last Thursday.
Police say the teenager wrote "Im Boutta Go Columbine Tommorow, Be Ready Ocean Township High School Inhabitants."
Ocean Township police searched the teenager's house in the Wayside section of the township for weapons but say they found nothing. The teen and his parents were questioned, but after a few hours, the teen was released to his father.
Superintendent of Schools John Lysko says the district did not consider it necessary to search the school.
"We were confident after speaking with local law enforcement that there was no real threat," says Lysko. The superintendent added that the teen has been disciplined, but he wouldn't disclose whether the senior was expelled or not. Classes went on as scheduled Friday without any interruption.
News 12 New Jersey is withholding the student's name because he is a minor. The teenager's father declined to comment to News 12 New Jersey. Police say the family has agreed to get the teenager into counseling.
Parents in the community say the school district should have notified them about the incident. The superintendent says he chose not to avoid unnecessary panic and concern.
