The Township of Hamilton Police Department says that there is no evidence that a black panther is loose in the Mays Landing section of town.

Police say they were alerted to numerous social media posts regarding a large coyote or feline in the woods.

“After a brief search, officers located a large black dog, which belonged to a local resident,” police wrote in a statement.

They say that the social media posts seemed to have originated with one call or post and that there is no danger to the community.
