A man from Roselle is facing animal cruelty charges after police find dozens of dogs living with him in poor conditions.
According to police, Evelio Calderon, 40, was living with 41 dogs in his home on the 700-block of Thompson Street.
The dogs ranged in age from puppies to seniors, varying widely in breed and size.
They were locked inside and forced to go to the bathroom indoors.
Two were suffering from shock and were taken to vets for immediate emergency treatment.
Several dogs were treated on site for injuries, including open sores, malnourishment, joint problems, and eye issues.
Most of the dogs are expected to survive
Four shelters across the state are now housing the dogs.
Prosecutors say they will decide on specific charges when the veterinarian reports come back.
