Police say they have a suspect in the 2017 deaths of a Maple Shade mother and her son.
The Burlington County Prosecutor announced Monday that with the help of DNA evidence, detectives tracked down the man who allegedly killed Sasikala Narra and 6-year-old Anish.
Nazeer Hameed is the man wanted for their deaths.
Police say he’s currently living in India, and they are enlisting the help of the FBI to have him arrested and extradited.
In 2017, the mother and son were found stabbed to death in their Maple Shade apartment.
Police have now revealed that Hameed lived in the complex and worked with the victim’s husband and father.
Police were able to file murder charges after linking DNA from blood at the crime scene to DNA on Hameed’s work laptop.
“This blood evidence was crucial to identifying our suspect in this case,” said Chief of Detectives Patrick Thornton, with the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher Fletcher defended the work of police, who have been following this case for eight years. Flether said,
“It was mischaracterized by some as being stalled and stagnant but that was not true. The case never went cold," said Fletcher.
Police don’t have a motive, but detectives with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office believe Hameed had a personal vendetta with Hanu Narra related to their work at a company called Cognizant Technology Solutions in Philadelphia.
