Jersey City police announced three arrests this week in separate shooting and homicide investigations, including cases tied to Rutgers and Pavonia avenues.

Authorities said officers arrested 27-year-old Shaquan Hyppolite, of Syracuse, New York, on Thursday after receiving a bulletin related to a homicide investigation in Syracuse. Police said officers found the suspect’s vehicle near 127 Cator Ave. and took him into custody.

“These cases show the importance of coordination beyond city lines, because violent crime investigations often require law enforcement agencies to share information, move fast, and stay focused on getting dangerous individuals into custody,” said Deputy Chief Mark Conroy.

Later Thursday, officers arrested 22-year-old Shahid Jamison, of Jersey City, in connection with a May 6 shooting near Rutgers and Chapel avenues that left two 23-year-old victims with nonfatal gunshot wounds. Jamison faces charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

In a separate case, police arrested 21-year-old Jamien Sojos, of Bayonne, in connection with a May 7 shooting on Pavonia Avenue. No injuries were reported. Sojos was charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses, among other charges.

“These arrests show the value of intelligence-driven policing and the importance of officers who are actively working to prevent further violence before it happens,” said Mayor James Solomon.
